How to Store an E-Bike Battery
Practical advice for storing an e-bike battery in the UK, including charge level, temperature, long breaks and what not to do.

Choose the right place
A dry indoor cupboard or room is better than a shed, boiler room or hot conservatory. The aim is steady temperature, low humidity and no risk of knocks.
If the battery is removable, take it off the bike before long storage so the whole setup is easier to inspect and keeps less moisture around the contacts.
What charge level to leave it at
For storage, a mid-charge level is usually the safest general answer unless the manufacturer says something different for your exact pack.
Leaving a battery empty for a long time can be just as unhelpful as parking it fully charged. Either extreme is a poor long-term habit.
If the bike will not be used for weeks
Check the pack occasionally rather than forgetting about it until spring. If the battery loses charge, top it up lightly rather than letting it sit flat.
Do not leave the battery on the charger for days as a storage strategy. Charging and storage are different jobs.
Bringing it back into use
Inspect the casing, contacts and charger before the first ride back. If anything smells odd, looks swollen or feels unusually hot, stop and ask for advice.
A battery that has been stored well should come back to life with a normal charge and a normal first ride. If the range has collapsed, the battery may already be tired.
What not to do
Do not store the battery near direct heat, in standing water, or where heavy objects can be piled on top of it.
If the battery was damaged before storage, do not assume that time makes it safe again. Get proper advice instead.
